Peek3D macOS Quick Look extension for 3MF files.

The 3D printing workflow involves constantly switching between files. Downloading models, organizing plates, tweaking slicer settings. macOS handles STL and OBJ previews perfectly fine out of the box, but 3MF files are a blind spot. No thumbnails, no previews. You have to open Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer just to remember what a project contains.

Peek3D fills that gap. Select any 3MF file in Finder, press Space, and get a fully interactive 3D preview. Rotate the model by dragging, zoom with the scroll wheel, and watch it slowly spin on a turntable. It also generates proper Finder thumbnails, so your project files finally show what's inside at a glance.

The 3MF format is more complex than it looks. Slicer apps like Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer package their projects as ZIP archives containing multiple models, build plate configurations, and embedded thumbnails. Peek3D parses all of it with a custom SAX-based XML parser that stays memory-efficient even with large print files. For thumbnails, it first extracts the PNG that slicers embed inside the archive, only falling back to a SceneKit render when needed.

Built with Swift and SceneKit, it runs as a lightweight system extension. No dock icon, no menu bar clutter. Just press Space.
